“Borders Beyond the Border” was created in 2014 as a collaboration between Duke University’s Forum for Scholars and Publics and academics, artists, journalists, students, and public scholars. Recognizing the influx of immigrants to North Carolina, we desired to document and analyze their experiences in the Tar Heel state through articles, documentary film, photography, and animated stories. Former digital specialist at Duke’s Forum for Scholars & Publics Natalie Robles and I produced two films: “P’urhépecha Migrants in North Carolina: A Saint Day Festival,” and “Las Mañanitas in/en Durham.”
